Abstract

The colony productivity of honey bees is highly dependent on the productivity of the queen. If the queen is too old and less productive or lost than candidates of queen will be formed. If the condition was occurred on dry season, the colonies can be damaged because lack of protein. Therefore, to fulfilled the nutritional needs the colony is given additional feed soybean meal. The study was conducted at the UP-3 Tretes in April to May 2009. Number of colonies used were 10 colonies (10 stup), which consists of 5 as treatments and 5 colonies as control. The data taken is the number of cells that form the queen candidates and the magnitude of additional feed intake treatment soy flour in the colony. The results of the number of candidates for queen cells formed after T test with a = 0.05 turns out there are difference significantly between the colonies and colonies treated controls (t0 = 3.646; ttable = 2.306). This suggests that the number of cells in the colony queen candidate treatment (8.60 ± 3.78) different significantly from the control colonies (1.58 ± 3). The amount of feed intake apparently varies in each colony. Results of the study also showed that supplemental feeding did not show maximum results in colonies inhabited old worker bees. Keywords: supplementary feed, soybean meal, the cell would be queens, Apis cerana.

Abstract

Gallus domesticus chicken is a favorite side dish of Indonesian society since the past until now, because the meat is delicious, low in cholesterol and fat, but rich in protein and carbohydrates. From the observation in Jember and surrounding areas, there is often a shortage of stock in the market because there are kuthuk often stunted and eventually die(lethal). The purpose of the study to determine the morphology of G. Domesticus ova that can produce the best quality kuthuk. The results are expected to contribute knowledge to the farmers in order to produce the best quality kuthuk, in order to get optimal benefits. This type of research is true experimental, with a sampling technique with simple random sampling. The design used was a completely randomized design (CRD) factorial using the first two factors form the egg, both kuthuk quality. Data from the study, tested with inferential statistics, namely ANOVA using SPSS v16. The analysis showed that, with the egg morphology of a large oval or flat smooth surface is great for the development of khutuk, small oval shape or a flat smooth surface good for kuthuk development, while large or small shapes with rough or uneven surfaces is not good to the development of Gallus domesticus kuthuk Keywords: Gallus domesticus, development, kuthuk.

Abstract

River represents as ecosystem of water which is very needed by all living organism and human being in their daily activities. These activities are possible to degrade the quality of water river. Benthic macroinvertebrates  is one of the water animal that be used to monitor the quality of water. Besides benthic macroinvertebrates, measurement of water chemical factor often used as indicator for water quality. Research about influence quality of water on the river to existence of benthic macroinvertebrates in River of Prono Leces District of Probolinggo have been conducted in July-August 2010. The aim is that observing the quality of water, type and properties of benthic macroinvertebrates and the influence of water quality to existence of benthic macroinvertebrates. Method that used is plot method which is conducted systematically. Result of research indicates that pH, DO and BOD of Prono River are still good enough because it still fulfill standard quality of water specified by government. There are 11 types of benthic macroinvertebrates in all research station. H’ of benthic macroinvertebrates in all station below one (0.24 - 0.66). The result of analysis shows that a marked difference inexistence between station for the analysis of chemical factor and type variety index of benthic macroinvertebrates. Quality of water river of Prono does not give an effect to the  existence of benthic macroinvertebrates. Key Word : water quality, species richness , species of diversity, River of Prono
